Four ways our family says NO to GMO!

September 1, 2012 by Scott

One of the most important issues of our day, an issue that directly affects the health and well-being of everyone on our planet, is an issue most people have never heard about – genetically modified organisms (GMO) in our food supply. The ‘why’ is a topic we encourage everyone to research. Start here, then do some Google searches. Research both sides, then decide for your family if foods containing GMO are something you feel comfortable with your children consuming on a regular basis. We … [Read more...]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

August 25, 2012 by Scott

We are one of the few parents, dusty relics of a bygone era, who still make their kids say ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’ when addressing adults. However, if you know us personally, we know that just because we wrote this they probably WON’T do it the next time they talk to you. That’s just the way this sort of thing goes. Getting them to say ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’ consistently has been a long, slow, arduous process. For some reason, in the absence of constant instruction in this area kids tend to default to … [Read more...]

The ordered steps of friendship

August 18, 2012 by Scott

We all see aspects of ourselves in our kids, but Abby’s shyness stirs up emotions in me that are hard to describe. When she’s around others, especially people she doesn’t know, often she’ll wrap her arms around me and tuck her head under my arm, chin down. She’s terrified and, no matter how much we might think her fears are irrational, they are palpably real to her. I know, all too well, because that’s how I was. When I was in 6th grade my parents made the decision to move from the tiny … [Read more...]

The myth of the well-intentioned gun grabber

August 14, 2012 by Scott

The founders of our Republic understood the fact that government is a necessary evil, the unimpeded growth of which always leads to human suffering on a mass scale. Thinking of not only themselves but their posterity, they bound government with the ‘chains’ of the Constitution, for the first time in history codifying into law rights that had always been understood by right-thinking people as God-given. Their thoughts were that if these rights were written into law they could not be … [Read more...]

Babies are cheap, kids are expensive!!

August 11, 2012 by Scott

Our ‘baby,’ Grace, just had a birthday. If babies turn into toddlers at that magical age of two, for the first time in about seven and a half years we are ‘officially’ without a baby at our house. To be honest I’m not quite sure what to think about all this. While Kim is one to get nostalgic about these sort of ‘milestones and maybe shed a tear or two about how she’s lost her ‘babies,’ I can’t help but notice that slowly, slowly but surely, these kids are getting more and more expensive! I’m … [Read more...]
