When the lights go out

November 4, 2012 by Scott

Due to the recent destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, millions of people found themselves without power. There are reports of 6 hour gas lines, people knifing each other to get food and supplies, people rummaging through dumpsters for food, defecating in hallways, and more. Authorities say it could be late November before all power is restored. There are places in New York, such as Staten Island, right in what would seem to be the middle of Federal power, where people have waited for days for … [Read more...]

Abby’s story – when God healed our little girl

October 27, 2012 by Scott

Six years ago this week we became parents for the second time. The pregnancy and birth was routine, every step as expected. After all, why shouldn’t it have been? We were old hats at this baby thing. Nathaniel was almost two years old by then, in big boy diapers now. We used to worry so much then, not so much now. There’s no place like home

October 20, 2012 by Scott

A couple of weeks ago I went to Las Vegas for a business conference for four nights. In all our ten years of marriage, until then, Kim and I had never been apart more than two nights, and that only once. As the time approached we each had quite differing feelings about this trip. For some odd reason the prospect of taking care of four little kids for five days and four nights, alone, didn’t appeal to her. Sure, she’d miss ME and all that, but let’s face it, she would have never had that many … [Read more...]

That magnificent THIEF in everyone’s pocket!

October 13, 2012 by Scott

I don’t know how I avoided it this long, but I couldn’t avoid it forever. I had always thought they were over-rated, over-complicated gadgets that the technologically uber-adept play with so they won’t have to make eye-contact with the general public as they zig-zag through the mall and other places where people congregate, or something pretentious people whip out so everyone around them will think they are important (news flash: they don’t). Friends kept telling me how cool, how convenient they … [Read more...]

Five easy, inexpensive prepping steps everybody can take!

October 6, 2012 by Scott

As a family that tries to prepare, as best we can, for the inevitable hard times on the way, we see it as a part of our ‘mission’ to educate other families on the basics of prepping. When we do talk about this topic to others, however, inevitably we are met with resistance. It’s not so much that people, once given some basic facts, don’t see what’s coming. After all, the giant gaping cliff over which we’re headed is pretty obvious even to the ostriches among us. In fact, once they see it, it’s … [Read more...]
