Five products that changed our family’s life for the better

February 23, 2013 by Scott

Some inventions change the world – electricity, the internet, indoor plumbing. Others, well, might not be quite as earth-shattering as airplanes, flat-screen TVs and smart-phones. They fly under the radar, unbeknownst to most people, but they have the potential to change the lives of those willing think outside the box and give them a try. As a family, we like to pride ourselves on being willing to try almost anything (within reason, of course… no crack cocaine for us thank you!), so when we … [Read more...]

Patience or plastic?

February 16, 2013 by Scott

In a day and age where, given the miracles of modern technology, everything from household chores to the jobs we perform for our living should be easier, everyday life has, in reality, gotten more and more hectic. Among the many virtues that have been lost, perhaps one that stands out most strikingly is patience. It seems the more we are able to have everything at our fingertips, the more we want. Planes, trains, and automobiles put us within reasonable timeframes of even the most distant … [Read more...]

Five ways to fight the system

February 9, 2013 by Scott

If there’s anything today’s powers-that-be hate, it’s self-sufficiency. They want you to be a cog in a machine, doing your part (whether that’s paying most of your income in taxes or drawing a check) to advance their socialist agenda, yet doing nothing to stand on your own two feet. By the actions of many municipalities across this once-great land, one would think such things as growing a garden or raising a few backyard chickens were akin to parking a couple of school buses and an old Ford … [Read more...]

Five ways prepping can save you money

February 2, 2013 by Scott

We’re by no means rich or even moderately well off, but we do believe strongly in living within our means. Granted, we’re probably not as strict on some things as Dave Ramsey would be, but on most financial matters we try to follow what we believe to be the spirit of Dave’s financial ‘school’ of advice. While he teaches specifics that any family who wants to get out of debt and attain to financial freedom should follow, the basic things we have done to get and (for the most part) stay out of … [Read more...]

Easy homemade cornbread

January 12, 2013 by Kim

Being a bread lovin’ family living in the South, we are REQUIRED to love cornbread! Well, maybe that is a little strong, but it sure does seem to be common ‘round these parts. We Morefields love to find any excuse to make homemade cornbread! I’ll give our basic cornbread recipe and then some optional add-ins we really enjoy. For the cornmeal, we love to grind our own. This sounds more difficult than it actually is. We use the same grinder for our wheat, and grind popcorn kernels for cornmeal. … [Read more...]
