Seven Reasons for Enclosing Your Garden with an Invisible Fence

March 13, 2015 by Scott

We live in the "city limits" of a small-to-medium rural town. As such, we're subject to certain city regulations people under county jurisdiction don't have to worry about. Thankfully, backyard chickens are something our town allows (we really want to do that soon!), but free roaming dogs are something it doesn't. Though this is probably a good thing given the abnormally high ratio of moving cars to dogs in a city environment, it does mean we have to take measures to keep our outside dog … [Read more...]

The Ins and Outs of FIFO

September 21, 2014 by Scott

Whether our world begins to resemble something somewhere between Mad Max and The Walking Dead, or the Fed (and the CDC!) manages to keep things rolling merrily along for the foreseeable future, the benefits to being prepared, to having a pantry so well-stocked your friends think you’ve started a COSTCO in your basement, are numerous and easy to list (the main one, for me anyway, being that we don’t have to go to the grocery store every other day!). It made it real, and whereas before we had just occasionally talked about someday doing a little prepping, it was then that we finally got serious about it. Back in 2008, when the sky was the … [Read more...]

Why We Prep

March 29, 2013 by Scott

If you’ve seen the show Doomsday Preppers you know what I’m talking about – that ‘what a dipstick’ moment at the end of every show where the narrator, after pretending to treat them seriously by having the ‘experts’ rate their preps, then proceeds to blithely state just how remote the possibility is that whatever disaster scenario the poor misguided sap was prepping for will ever happen. Now, maybe it’s a good thing to let Granny know that aliens probably aren’t going to take over the world, at … [Read more...]
