Homemade Light & Easy Kettle Corn

April 13, 2013 by Kim

Trying to find light snacks is not always an easy task with my ravenous brood. We love popcorn, but after reading about all the unhealthy preservatives in microwave popcorn, we eliminated all popcorn for a while. We found an air popper, but to be honest, the amount of butter we had to add to make it taste appealing was just too much. It felt very heavy instead of the light 'family movie night' snack we were looking for. I researched some of the recipes for kettle corn on Pinterest and the 'net … [Read more...]

Five ways to fight the system

February 9, 2013 by Scott

If there’s anything today’s powers-that-be hate, it’s self-sufficiency. They want you to be a cog in a machine, doing your part (whether that’s paying most of your income in taxes or drawing a check) to advance their socialist agenda, yet doing nothing to stand on your own two feet. By the actions of many municipalities across this once-great land, one would think such things as growing a garden or raising a few backyard chickens were akin to parking a couple of school buses and an old Ford … [Read more...]

Easy homemade cornbread

January 12, 2013 by Kim

Being a bread lovin’ family living in the South, we are REQUIRED to love cornbread! Well, maybe that is a little strong, but it sure does seem to be common ‘round these parts. We Morefields love to find any excuse to make homemade cornbread! I’ll give our basic cornbread recipe and then some optional add-ins we really enjoy. For the cornmeal, we love to grind our own. This sounds more difficult than it actually is. We use the same grinder for our wheat, and grind popcorn kernels for cornmeal. … [Read more...]

Three ingredients to stop feeding your kids

January 5, 2013 by Scott

No matter how you slice it – choosing the right foods to feed your family is tough! Not only are kids and parents inundated with commercials and peer pressure to eat the baddies everyone knows about, the candy bars, sodas, snack cakes, and candy that kids seem to pick up for ‘free’ at every ‘kid’ activity they go to, but the things that people typically do NOT know about can be just as or even more harmful. While we parents should certainly watch what’s on the front label of the foods our kids … [Read more...]

Dehydrate those fresh peaches for a healthy snack or a rainy day!

September 8, 2012 by Scott

With harvest season fast upon us, farmer’s markets and other venues are filled with fresh produce just waiting to be snatched up at bargain prices. Baskets of peaches, apples, green beans, and other locally grown bounty are available at often a fraction of their off-season price. But even when you pick up that giant basket of peaches from the local farmer’s market, get it home, eat a few over the next couple of days, maybe make a peach cobbler or two, often a significant portion of the contents … [Read more...]
