Why We Buy Organic

February 18, 2012 by Scott

It’s not uncommon to encounter a raised eyebrow or two when we tell people we try to buy organic when possible. The mere mention of the word ‘organic’ often conveys, to some people, images of tree-hugging hippies taking enough time off from bong smoking to put on some sandals and something tie-dyed, tie back their hair, grab their canvas bag and saunter off to the local Whole Foods, Earth Fare or Trader Joe’s for some tofu (what is tofu??) and fresh salad greens. Others think of organic as a … [Read more...]

JUNK Food – We don’t pay for it but we get it anyway!

February 15, 2012 by Scott

Parents of small children know that it’s very difficult to escape the constant, perpetual, unrelenting, ceaseless, unwavering (aren’t Thesauruses cool?) ENDLESS ways in which one’s children can acquire various random items of JUNK food that have nothing whatsoever to do with said parents giving it to them! Grandparents, relatives, Sunday school teachers, daycare workers, school teachers, barbers, waitresses who think they will get on your good side by bribing the kiddos with sweeties,  doctor … [Read more...]

Whole Grain Hot Dog Wraps

February 9, 2012 by Scott

I think we can all agree that hot dogs aren't the most healthy meat to have for dinner, but sometimes it's just fun to eat a big thick all-beef Ballpark Frank. Surround it with a freshly baked whole-grain 'bun,' and you have something that will not only add nutrition to your meal but will make it taste better too (plus, if you use freshly ground nutrient rich whole-grain, remove some of the guilt!). These are better than corn dogs and a lot less greasy! For these, we use our basic bread … [Read more...]

7 years ago today (Happy Birthday Nathaniel!)

February 8, 2012 by Scott

It’s hard to believe that seven years ago today our son Nathaniel was born. Before that, we had went through more than a year of wondering if we would even be able to have children, resigning ourselves to the possibility that God might have other plans. While that would have been OK, we are so thankful that His plans for us included four wonderful kids, starting with Nathaniel, our firstborn. I had always been told that watching your child being born is unlike any other experience, but until … [Read more...]

You know it’s time to stop having kids when…

February 5, 2012 by Scott

We love the Duggars! What awesome role models not only to parents with lots of kids, but all parents who want to raise their children right. We can’t imagine doing what they do, but then again we aren’t all called to raise 19 (or however many it is now) kids. For us, four was our number. For others, it might be something else. I will say this – our youngest is 18 months and there’s not a time that we hold her that we don’t get a little sad thinking that this will be the last time we hold … [Read more...]
