How to can strawberry jelly

April 9, 2012 by Scott

Canning is a great way to preserve fresh food for a rainy day. Not only does home-canned food taste better, but it’s often cheaper than buying a similar item at the store. Plus, you get the added benefit of knowing exactly what’s in the food you eat! Unfortunately, the perception that most people seem to have of home-canning is that it’s too difficult and time-consuming to actually undertake. Not so, and we intend to prove it! When we talk about canning with other people, we usually tell them … [Read more...]

Contentment

April 5, 2012 by Scott

Do you ever catch yourself looking so much forward to the next day or even the next stage of life that you forget to enjoy the moment you are in? I know I have. When I was a child I remember feeling like the day couldn’t come fast enough when I would be a ‘grown-up.’ I remember 16 being such a far-off, exotic age, but one I couldn’t WAIT to reach, if only because I would be able to drive. Then 18 became the target date, when I would be an ‘adult’ (yeah, that’s really what I thought…) and be able … [Read more...]

How To Keep Your Princesses From Turning Into Divas!

March 29, 2012 by Scott

In addition to our firstborn son, my wife and I have not one, not two, but three beautiful little princesses. Needless to say, we consider ourselves quite blessed. Sure, some might disagree with that assessment, depending on their view of society’s very outdated, arcane, medieval, SEXIST policy of parents of girls paying for weddings (yeah I know – CRAZY isn’t it??). Personally, I believe that is one area (maybe the only one) where society needs to step into the 21st century. But I … [Read more...]

Kid’s Night at Jason’s Deli

March 23, 2012 by Scott

Being a family of 6 on a budget and trying to eat healthy, we don’t eat out a whole lot. When we do, we have a few parameters a restaurant has to meet in order to secure the honor of our presence. First, kids should eat free. Second, kids should eat free. And third, you guessed it, kids should eat free. Did I mention that it’s important that kids eat free? Now that we’ve gotten the kids eat free part down, a healthy, varied menu keeps us coming back for more (so long as kids eat free). No … [Read more...]

Clutter – get it before it gets you!

March 17, 2012 by Scott

Living in Bristol and not being race fans gives us one nice advantage over most folks. Besides having our little town 3 times as crowded as normal for an entire week and roads that look like a scene from Mad Max (nothing like when *some* folks with a penchant for alcohol and fast cars get together for a big event!), we get to rent our house out twice a year (incidentally to the same nice people who take great care of our house every year)! So, twice a year, we have the duty of completely and … [Read more...]
